On The Road Again

Here I am, 2 weeks post-op & all I can say is that I'm overwhelmed & humbled by the outpouring of love & support that I've received. Surgery went great. I was in superb hands: my surgeon was my long term doctor, who delivered my 3 youngest children. My scar is really low, so I can still wear a bikini (& I did yesterday!). The hardest part of the recovery is actually taking the time to heal. Luckily I have the most wonderful family, who've taken amazing care of me. I'm the proudest mom in the world to see what loving, compassionate children I've raised. When my doctor told me it would take six weeks to be back to 100%, I wasn't quite sure what that meant. I knew I wouldn't be able to do an hour on the stairmaster, but I didn't know that I wouldn't be able to walk up a flight of stairs (or even 2 stairs!). I decided it wouldn't be smart to "post" on Percocet, but I'm totally off all medication now & I'm feeling really good. I'm allowed to start driving tomorrow.
Before my surgery, I made a commitment to attend the Hollywood Collectors Show in Burbank this Friday & Saturday, http://hollywoodcollectorshow.com/Burbank.htm , & I WILL be there. If you're in town stop by to say "Hi".
I don't know if I'll ever be able to respond to all the e-mails, cards & messages that I received (I'm going to try), but please know that your thoughts & prayers are truly appreciated.

So glad to hear all is well and that you are feeling better. Do make sure and take care of yourself. I know from experience that surgeries can take a long time to recover from. Don't over do it, and ask for someone to help if you can not do it yourself!
Lots of Love and Well Wishes.

I'm very glad to hear you're doing well! Everybody over at the Harpies Bizarre site were rooting for you, and wondering how it went.

I know from gall bladder surgery 3 years ago-- it takes a while to be able to get up and around without feeling a "pull" on the surgical site.

So make sure you take it easy, don't do like I did and try to do too much too fast. It just leads to a longer healing process! Oh and if it starts to feel itchy inside.. Don't scratch. It'll drive you nuts. :o)

Peace.

Erin, so glad all is well with you. I came across your blog while reminiscing and watching Bewitched, and I'm so glad I did. I too had been having symptoms that I had been ignoring. Thank you for your candor. I have had an initial appointment with my doctor and am scheduled for an ultrasound on Aug 2nd. Thumbs up girlfriend!
So glad to hear that all went well.

Dear Erin,
I also had my surgery on July 3rd, but it was my 3rd surgery for ovarian cancer. If you can post the stage of your cancer that would help us. I was dx in 2000 with stage 3C. Unfortunately, for us with later stage cancer it always comes back. I strongly recommend consolidation chemo after your surgery, please consider it. I will consolidate over the next year with Avastin. Please join our group online at www.ovca.net or tealtalk.org to learn more about ovarian cancer. There aren't very many of us, but we are all highly educated about this cancer.
Best of Luck,

I am glad to hear you are doing so well, so soon! I want to encourage you to follow Sandee's advice and join us on the websites she mentioned.

Educate yourself as much as you can about ovarian cancer. It is a serious cancer, and needs to be treated properly. A gynecological oncologist is really the type doctor you need to deal with this disease.

I wish you the best.
